Guys? Meet Courtney Stevens and Faking Normal.
I HAVE FEELINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK, OKAY? It’s poignant and powerful and full of purpose. I meant to post quotes while I read, but I couldn’t put it down long enough to follow through. So, go Courtney for that one.
Also, for anyone who hasn’t experienced rape/abuse and has wanted to learn about one of the quiet ways it destroys lives, read #FakingNormal. In the book, Courtney has captured the confusion and the guilt and the silence that hangs over this kind of situation brilliantly.
Last but definitely not least… Hey, Courtney? I want a Bodee. Kay? Kay. Thanks!

I need to take more time to read, so this month I’m posting my TBR list! I picked these three exciting books up over the summer and I can’t wait to finally dig into them all! Faking Normal is up first because it’s been on my wishlist since I heard Courtney talk about it back in 2013. 😀

LOYALTY AND LIES IS AVAILABLE NOW!
Sometimes you hit rock bottom and then discover a whole new level of suck.
Moving to California last year was supposed to distance Axl Derringer from the drinking, drugs, and dangerous friends he left in Chicago after they landed him handcuffed to a hospital bed. It worked until Homecoming night when he broke his sobriety and blacked out.
One month later, Axl’s girlfriend Gloria tells him she’s pregnant, that he’s the father, and that it happened on the one night he can’t remember. And it’s all downhill from there: mandatory AA meetings, visits to his probation officer, and dealing with the stress of Gloria’s vicious rumors, plus a visit from his Chicago friends. To top it all off, he’s forced into a project partnership with Gloria’s best friend Rory, a girl who kind of wants to kill him.
A paternity suit, betrayals of trust, insurmountable loss—it’s basically the senior year from hell. After a while Axl starts to believe that not even proving that Gloria is lying will be enough to put his life back together again. But then hope appears from one of the last places he expects and he realizes he may finally be ready to trust someone with his heart.

This has been an incredibly busy summer for bookish things, but only now am I able to talk about everything that’s happened! To put it simply, I have signed on as an author with both Entangled Teen and Riptide Publishing‘s YA imprint, Triton Books!
First up will be my assassin girls in 2016! I’ll get a chance to introduce you to Kindra and there may also be guns and car chases and explosions. Maybe. Probably. 😀
Then, between March 2017 and March 2018, my fantasy trilogy will release! Desert islands, storm-filled skies, magic, conspiracies, secrets, and lots of fighting. All that and a lot more will be there!
I can’t tell you too much more about the books yet except that I absolutely adore both of these series and am so happy that they’ve found loving homes with fantastic editors! They’ll help me whip these books into shape and then I will get the chance to share them with you! And that really is awesome.
Additionally, now that I have all of these things to keep track of, I’ve added a Book List page to the site. This will be a quick, chronological reference list for all of my publications, both traditional and self-published, and I’ll keep it updated as release dates change or new titles get added to the list.
Aaaaand…that’s it for now! Seems like more than enough to be gettin’ on with, though, don’t you think?
Writing buddies are awesome.

KARA MADE ME AN ACEICORN! I got her today and I’m already in love. She’s cute and cuddly and will cheerfully gore anyone who tries to tell her that #asexuality is something that needs to be fixed.

Earlier this week on Twitter, I mentioned that I would soon have to announce some good news and bad news. This is the bad news portion.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, Deadly Sweet Lies, book two in the Dream War Saga, will not be releasing next week. The release date has been pushed back to December 1, 2015.
On the plus side of this good news, I’m getting a pretty new cover for the book! One that I will hopefully be able to share with you before the end of the month!
I know that there has been a long wait in between the release of Sing Sweet Nightingale and Deadly Sweet Lies. I genuinely apologize and hope that you all continue to bear with me. Sometimes the publishing machine moves slowly and sometimes it takes a while for all the kinks and quirks to be worked out behind the scenes. We’re trying very hard to make this book the best it can be. Thank you so much for waiting with me.
Much love to you all! <3
I’m missing my road trip today so I changed out my desktop picture. Colorado was absolutely spectacular when I drove through. I want to go back!

During the RT convention in May, I was lucky enough to meet Marieke Nijkamp, one of the co-founders of the wonderful blog DiversifYA. The blog has an interview series where they invite authors to talk about their own diversity whether that’s sexual orientation, race, disability, or anything else. She asked me to answer questions about what it was like growing up on the asexual spectrum and I was thrilled. So thrilled that I may have gone a little verbose when answering the questions!
Below is a short excerpt from the interview, but you can read the whole thing on DiversifYA.
1. How do you identify yourself?
Since I didn’t discover the term “asexual” in the context of a potential human orientation until last year (I was 29 and already divorced), I’m still figuring out my precise classification. For now, however, I think heteromantic graysexual is close. Both sides of that label set are subject to change if necessary, though.
2. What did it feel like growing up asexual?
You know that feeling when you’re hanging out with a group of people who have known each other for ages and they’re all really nice and everything but they keep referencing people you don’t know, places you haven’t been, and inside jokes you don’t get?
Yeah, that’s what growing up asexual is like. Especially when you don’t know that asexual is an orientation option and so you can’t ever quite put your finger on why you’re ever so slightly on the outside of most groups.
