Want to win a cruise? Yes, seriously.

Kimberly Ann Miller’s debut novel, Triangles, takes place on a cruise to Bermuda, so it was only obvious that we would have to give away a frikkin’ CRUISE to celebrate its release.

Yeppers, Spencer Hill Press is giving away a cruise to one lucky winner. Really. This is not an April Fool’s joke–it’s a travel voucher that can be used to cover the cost of a cruise (or some other kind of travel–they’re flexible that way). Two runners up will receive gift cards from either Amazon or Book Depository (winners’ choice).

Official rules and entry forms are available online on Spencer Hill’s website or you can download a PDF of the entry form here.

And don’t forget to check out the inspiration for this awesome contest, Kimmy’s book Triangles!

Triangles
by Kimberly Ann Miller
Coming June 18, 2013

A cruise ship. A beautiful island. Two sexy guys. What could possibly go wrong?

In the Bermuda Triangle–a lot.

Hoping to leave behind the reminders of her crappy life–her father’s death years ago, her mother’s medical problems, and the loser who’s practically stalking her–seventeen-year-old Autumn Taylor hops on a ship with her sister for a little distraction. When she wakes up in the Bermuda Triangle, she fears she’s gone nuts for more than one reason: that loser’s suddenly claiming they’re a happy couple… a hot guy is wrapping his arms around her and saying “Happy Anniversary”… and suddenly, she’s full of bruises, losing her hair, and getting IV medication. Autumn visits the ship’s doctor, hoping for a pill or a shot to make the craziness go away. Instead, she’s warned that these “alternate realities” could become permanent.

My trip to DC! Or the parts I can tell you about anyway. ;)

My photographers Jeremy West, Jeffrey West, and Lauren McCall testing out the flash

I can’t tell you much about my cover shoot, but the process was fabulous and I want to make sure I officially thank the entire team responsible for the amazingness of the day. My models were all FANTASTIC, the photography team was totally behind the vision for the series, and my editors were as excited to see everything start coming together as I was. THANK YOU EVERYONE! I will remember this day for the rest of my life and the awesomeness of it all is hard to put into words.

In addition to the day of photo-shooting, I also got to spend a few days visiting with my editors, my family who lives in Maryland, and wandering around DC! By the end of the trip I had more than one person tell me I could come stay with them if I felt like moving and it was SO HARD to pack my bags and come back to Florida. Luckily the weather has been nice in Florida this week (meaning low humidity and tolerable temperatures), so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

I wish I’d taken more pictures of Maryland, but most of the non-photo-shoot pictures I have are from my day sightseeing in DC. To take a look, just click the link below!

I can’t wait to see the cover for Sing, Sweet Nightingale (hopefully by the end of April!) and am so excited to share it with you all (definitely at the end of May!). Check back on the blog for more updates and information as it gets closer to that time! <3

This weekend is going to be AMAZING!

Washington (c) rendo79

Tomorrow, lovelies, I leave my day job at five, drive over to the airport, get on a plane, and land in our nation’s capital city: Washington, D.C.!

I won’t be in the city much because everything I’m going for the five days I’m in the area happens in either Maryland or Virgina, but it’s going to be amazing. It could be happening in Antarctica and I’d be happy!

What things, you may ask? Lots of them. Mostly, though, I get to spend quality time with my wonderful editresses Danielle and Patricia and talk about all things The Dream War Saga! The weekend will be a book-centric time and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED ABOUT THIS TRIP! Is it tomorrow yet?! Why can’t it be tomorrow yet?!

**deep breath**

Right. Okay. I’m fine! I think.

On top of book things, though, I get to meet in person a lot of really cool online friends and hang out in an area of the country that actually knows what winter feels like! For this Florida girl, that is awesome!

I’ll be posting pictures and things on Twitter through the weekend, so if you’re not already following me (@byericacameron), go fix that!

Now, please excuse me. I have to go do ALL THE THINGS at the day job today so I can take the whole next week off!!! 😀

Sing revision update #2

Guys, after working 14-16 hour days since last wednesday, I totally feel like this right now:

Study 2 (c) Colin Adamson

HOWEVER, progress is being made and I’ve been told from trusted sources that it’s GOOD progress! So, yay! There’s no time-back guarantee that my editresses shall agree, but I will just have to take that chance and go where these revisions are taking me. Because right now it’s a really fun place. EXHAUSTING, but fun. 🙂

This also means that my brain is not really capable of thinking of non-SSN related things for very long right now. Because, you know, this happened:

[Co-worker comes into my office. I look up. Their mouth is moving and the words are completely lost.]

Co-worker: … Right, Erica?
Me: Did you say something about dreams?
Co-worker: [blank look] What? No.
Me: Right… of course. Sorry, what did you need?

So…. yeah. I’m going to go hide in my editing cave again. Because that’s where my brain is anyway.

Are you ready for more of The Dollhouse Asylum?

I’ve already shared the glorious creepiness that is my friend Mary Gray’s debut novel The Dollhouse Asylum (I mean, COME ON! Just look at that cover!), but now I have more awesome things to share! Mary and our friends at Spencer Hill put together this creeptastic book trailer to go along with the beautifully haunting cover and cover copy.

A virus that had once been contained has returned, and soon no place will be left untouched by its destruction. But when seventeen-year-old Cheyenne wakes up in Elysian Fields–a subdivision cut off from the world and its monster-creating virus–she is thrilled to have a chance at survival.

At first, Elysian Fields, with its beautiful houses and manicured lawns, is perfect. Teo Richardson, the older man who stole Cheyenne’s heart, built it so they could be together. But when Teo tells Cheyenne there are tests that she and seven other couples must pass to be worthy of salvation, Cheyenne begins to question the perfection of his world.

The people they were before are gone. Cheyenne is now “Persephone,” and each couple has been re-named to reflect the most tragic romances ever told. Everyone is fighting to pass the test, to remain in Elysian Fields. Teo dresses them up, tells them when to move and how to act, and in order to pass the test, they must play along. If they play it right, then they’ll be safe. But if they play it wrong, they’ll die.

Along with the trailer (which you can watch here or in the player below), there’s also a CONTEST! For awesomely free things! Watch the video and then scroll down to enter. Also, don’t forget to add the book to your Goodreads list! It helps. No, really! It does! Because by adding the book on Goodreads, you can enter the contest. See? It helps!

Oh, and, by the way…

Happy Valentines Day! 😉

For the next couple of months, I make no promises.

So, remember how I was all excited about getting my edit letter a couple of months ago?

Well, I got it! And now I’m not sure if I’m excited or if I want to go curl up in a ball in the corner and cry.  I think I’m leaning more toward the latter at the moment. But, anyway. MOVING ON.

I tell you this for two reasons:
1- This means that Sing, Sweet Nightingale is one step closer to being finished and ready for ARCs which is one step closer to being an actual book I can share with people! Yay!

2- The next few months of my life are going to be INSANE and therefore I make no promises whatsoever on my posting schedule here.

It’s not just the arrival of the edit letter that has taken over my life, it’s also one of the two busiest times of year at my day job. Within the next five weeks, I have two events that will put me out of commission for anything non-day job related for five days each. Plus, I have an awesome book-related trip that will also put me (at least partially) out of commission for five days. Combine that with an incredibly in-depth edit letter and I’m surprised my brain isn’t already melting out my ears in protest.

There shall definitely be posts here, particularly when I get to share cool things from other Spencer Hill authors. I know there’s a trailer reveal on Friday and I’m jumping on a cover reveal a couple days late on Monday! Luckily, these are things that take very little thought processing from me and even less creation of content. Other than that, don’t expect much. I might not even have the time to do my roundup of awesome Cracked.com articles because I won’t have time to read them myself.

So, um, that’s it for now! I still have some good news that I hope to share later this week or sometime next week, but for now I need to go buy ten thousand post-its and a few hundred notebooks and prepare for SSN Rewrite Number Three…

The view from my side of the fence.

In an industry where change has occurred rarely and at a slow pace, the past decade has brought an avalanche of new ideas, technology, and problems. Publishing as a whole has dealt with all this in ways both good and bad and, honestly, I don’t know enough about the details of those decisions to even begin to tell you which is which. One of the things I do know has happened because of these changes has been the rise of the small press both in number and in prestige.

Despite this, many people within (and outside) the publishing industry don’t know much about small presses. Or equate them all with the vanity presses of old. This is just not the case. And my editor (and fellow small press author) Danielle Ellison has teamed up with the girls from Tangled up in Words as well as various industry professionals to help shed more light on the pros and cons of publishing with a small press.

They’re calling the series Small Press 411 and it started with a post yesterday. And now? Now there’s already a post with questions answered by agent Julia Weber! I’m thrilled by this blog series because the information needs to be out there for those still doing their research on the publishing industry–and even for those already in the industry.

Simply based on my own experiences, small presses are awesome! Granted, I’m still at the beginning of the process, but the most important part of publishing–to me–was finding an editor who understood my vision for my book and was willing to take the time to help me get there. I ended up with TWO! I call that lucky and I’m more than happy that Danielle is now taking the time to spread the small press love.

Take the time to check out what’s already up and look for a LOT more posts over the next three weeks. Even if you already know about small presses, you may be surprised by what you’ll learn!

Cover Reveal: Reclaimed by Sarah Guillory

One of the amazing things about joining Spencer Hill has been meeting the other Spencer Hill authors. Sarah Guillory is helping to launch the Spencer Hill Contemporary line and, in addition to that, she’s just an awesome human being. And also one of my roommates for BEA this summer! So flipping excited about that I cannot even tell you about it in words that make sense! I just start Muppet flailing every time I think about it.

I totally meant to do this earlier, but doctors appointments and magic contacts and work and other things happened and the day got away from me! Despite my tardiness, Sarah’s book Reclaimed is releasing this year (OMG YAY, SARAH!) and finally, finally we get to see the stunning cover!

Want to know more? OF COURSE YOU DO! So here it is:

Jenna Oliver doesn’t have time to get involved with one boy, let alone two.

All Jenna wants is to escape her evaporating small town and her alcoholic mother. She’s determined she’ll go to college and find a life that is wholly hers—one that isn’t tainted by her family’s past. But when the McAlister twins move to town and Jenna gets involved with both of them, she learns the life she planned may not be the one she gets.

Ian McAlister doesn’t want to start over; he wants to remember.

Ian can’t recall a single thing from the last three months—and he seems to be losing more memories every day. His family knows the truth, but no one will tell him what really happened before he lost his memory. When he meets Jenna, Ian believes that he can be normal again because she makes not remembering something he can handle.

The secret Ian can’t remember is the one Luke McAlister can’t forget.

Luke has always lived in the shadow of his twin brother until Jenna stumbles into his life. She sees past who he’s supposed to be, and her kiss brings back the spark that life stole. Even though Luke feels like his brother deserves her more, Luke can’t resist Jenna—which is the trigger that makes Ian’s memory return.

Jenna, Ian & Luke are about to learn there are only so many secrets you can keep before the truth comes to reclaim you.

2013 is already getting booked up fast!

I started double checking my calendar for scheduled events to make sure nothing important overlapped and I realized OMG. I’m going to be really freaking busy this year!

Between book and personal trips/events/weddings, I will be visiting Miami (three times), Manhattan (twice), Maryland, Vegas, Orlando, and a few other places I haven’t decided on yet. Considering that in 2012 I was lucky to go to BEA in Manhattan once, I’m so looking forward to this year of epic travel plans! I’ve also signed myself up to write four books, am about to tackle the edits on Sing, Sweet Nightingale and still have to fit my day job in there somewhere because it’s paying my bills right now.

If anyone ever suggests becoming a writer means you’ll have a lot of spare time, I might die laughing. 😉

I’ll post pictures and updates here and on Twitter/Facebook as the year goes by, so keep checking back to see all the exciting things in store for us this year!

Now I should probably go back to the day job before they realize I’m not doing anything…

Cover Reveal: Camp Boyfriend by J.K. Rock

As you may or may not know, my publisher Spencer Hill Press recently launched two new imprints. One of them, Spencer Hill Contemporary, is run by one of my fabulous editresses Patricia and today marks the first ever cover reveal for one of her SHC books! Check out Camp Boyrfriend by J.K. Rock!

CAMP BOYFRIEND

by J.K. Rock

The summer of her dreams is about to get a reality check.

They said it couldn’t be done, but geeky sophomore Lauren Carlson transformed herself into a popular girl after moving to a new school halfway across the country. Amazing what losing her braces and going out for cheerleading will do. Only trouble is, the popular crowd is wearing on Lauren’s nerves and she can’t wait to return to summer camp where she’s valued for her brain instead of her handsprings. She misses her old friends and most of all, her long time camp-only boyfriend, Seth. This year she intends to upgrade their relationship to year-round status once she’s broken up with her new, jock boyfriend, Matt. He doesn’t even begin to know the real her, a girl fascinated by the night sky who dreams of discovering new planets and galaxies.

But Matt isn’t giving her up without a fight. As he makes his case to stay together, Lauren begins to realize his feelings run deeper than she ever would have guessed. What if the guy she thought she was meant to be with forever isn’t really The One? Returning to Camp Juniper Point was supposed to ground her uprooted life, but she’s more adrift than ever. Everything feels different and soon Lauren’s friends are turning on her and both guys question what she really wants. As summer tensions escalate, Lauren wonders if she’s changed more than she thought. Will her first big discovery be herself?
